While we keep a close eye on what Swiss universities and institutes of research are up to in social media, it is much harder to keep track of what’s going on in general in social media in Switzerland.
Putting myths aside (Swiss users don’t engage, they don’t comment, they don’t share), we will attempt to answer the above question with the help of various individuals who have their fingers on the pulse of the Swiss market. Through their work and experience they will showcase what Swiss users are responding to in social media, the challenges and lessons learned from social media campaigns, and more.

Barnaby studied history at the University of Basel, focusing on the Industrial Revolution in the 19th Century and its social and economic impact. Today, as a journalist, he has shifted his attention to the Digital Revolution.
Fluent in German and English, Barnaby is the technology editor at SonntagsZeitung in Zurich. He has also contributed to Monocle, Das Magazin, The Daily Star (Dhaka), The Daily Star (Beirut), Saiten, Basler Zeitung, and Tagblatt.

Marcel Bernet is the owner of Bernet_PR in Zurich, the author of two books on social media, co-author of various academic studies in the field of online communications, a lecturer, and the co-author of bernetblog. Bernet_PR has done strategic social media consulting for ETH Zurich, FHNW, ZHAW, Swiss Post, Swisscom, Google, Migros, and Raiffeisen. More about Marcel.
Markus Maurer is a social media consultant at the Federation of Migros Cooperatives in Zurich. In his role, he works close with the Migros community management team to develop the company’s social media strategy, and he supports numerous sub-companies within the Migros-Group.
Markus also lectures on social media management at the HWZ University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration Zurich. Before he joined Migros, Markus worked as a product manager for a medical technology company and in customer service for an international fitness equipment brand. More about Markus.
François is a consultant who specializes in e-commerce and international websites. He studied industrial engineering at INSA Lyon. For four years, he on the Pixmania commercial team managing subscriptions and translations. François joined details.ch in 2011 as a senior project manager, where he advises global brands such as L’Oreal on leveraging social media. More about François.
