Between early 2011 and late 2012, we assessed barriers and advantages for Swiss academia in taking up tools such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and the like as part of a communications strategy. We carried out hands-on training, study tours, and monitoring as well as published an online resource for participants on how to integrate social media into established plans to expand reach globally and locally. Relevant participants from all Swiss higher education institutions including Universities of Applied Sciences and federal laboratories participated in this program.
The program received the 2011 Commendation of Merit by the Society for New Communications Research.
This two-year program was made possible by Gebert Rüf Foundation and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research.
